The Kay Letter Test is a linear letter acuity test comprising six of the Sloan letters used in the ETDRS study and regarded as the International Standard. These six letters were chosen as being most suitable for testing younger children.

The test displays five letters per acuity size (size 1.0 has 4 letters), as recommended by international standards, with optimal crowding between optotypes and the crowding bars.

It contains comprehensive LogMAR sizing at three metres from sizes 1.00 to -0.20, plus near testing with LogMAR letters and high frequency words. Additionally, Snellen equivalent sizes in metres and feet are also given.

Four different arrangements of the distance test letters are printed at each acuity size, so that results can be double-checked without memory playing a part.

A handy reminder of the size and letters being shown is printed in to top corner of the page facing the tester, together with an per-letter LogMAR chart.

This system uses a Crowded LogMAR test and fully complies with the recommendations for School-Entry vision screening prescribed by the UK National Screening Committee and Public Health England. Full instructions are printed on the inside cover.

The Kay Letter Test book measures 35cm x 21cm and all its pages can be wiped clean in compliance with infection control guidelines. The test book covers are encapsulated with robust plastic and the internal pages are matt laminated.

The test is packaged in a frosted PVC wallet with flap closure for safe storage in between uses.
